The first role model in a little girl’s life is her mother. If left unattended, you can often find your daughter playing with your nail polishes, eye shadows or lipstick. However, getting manicure and pedicure in a nail salon is a bit different.
A lot of mothers today take their little girls to the salon with them and let them get manicure and pedicure. This can be a great bonding experience. You get to spend some more time with your kid and she gets to see a little part of what it’s like to be a grown-up. Many salons offer various service packages for girls aged six to nine. And though weekly appointments might be too much for a little girl, according to many parents, we see nothing wrong with doing this for special occasions like birthdays or Christmas. You don’t need to get her a full spa treatment, but the occasional manicure and pedicure treat may not be such a bad idea. Of course, this will depend mainly on the child – if she doesn’t want to sit there and get her nails painted, don’t force her.
If you don’t want to take your little girl to the salon to get manicure and pedicure, you can paint her nails at home, if that’s what she wants. Let her browse your collection of nail polishes and choose some color. This might be something fun to do and you get to spend some extra time together, doing something you both like. You can even make it a point to have a mother-daughter day once in a while and give her manicure and pedicure then. Many parents view this as a disturbing trend, but others feel that it’s a good idea to let their little girls try these things and see that they don’t need various cosmetic products to look beautiful. Whether you will give your daughter manicure and pedicure at home, take her to the salon or keep her away from these things is entirely up to you as a parent.
You may not approve of this practice. A lot of people consider this as taking away a little girl’s childhood. At a certain age, she’s supposed to go to school, play with other kids and hear bedtime stories in the evening. Giving your young daughter a manicure and pedicure can be viewed a hyper-sexualizing her. There’s a time for everything. When she’s in her teens, she can decide whether she wants her nails painted, her hair dyed or her ears pierced. As a teenager, she will probably experiment a lot with clothing styles and makeup too. You and your little girls will decide when to do what. When you think about these things, you may not be sure if this is going to be a good or a bad thing for her in the end. If you ask, we in FashionBelief, believe it’s not really important whether your little girl will have manicure and pedicure now or later, when she’s a teenager. What really matters is for her to know her self-worth at a young age and not let others make her feel bad for buying or not buying various cosmetic products.
When you take your little girl to the salon to get manicure and pedicure or do this at home, make sure she accepts it as something fun you do together. She needs to know that she can do this if she wants to, but she can be beautiful and special without these products. And at what age you’ll allow this is entirely up to you, as a parent, to decide.
